Paper trading only. Changing a limit needs the owner's approval.
No live session yet. Today's use of each limit (loss, positions, trades, exposure) appears here once the live desk runs. The limits below are the desk's risk settings.
Hard limits
The live desk's risk manager checks these before every paper trade
| Limit | Value | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Paper capital | ₹10,00,000 | The paper account's starting money. The percentage limits below are shares of the account's equity, which starts here and moves with each day's profit or loss. |
| Risk per trade | 0.5% of equity (₹5,000 at ₹10,00,000 paper capital) | The most one trade may lose if its stop is hit, after charges and slippage. The desk sizes every trade so its stop loss stays inside this. |
| Daily loss limit | 2% of equity (₹20,000 at ₹10,00,000 paper capital) | When the day's loss (closed and open trades together) reaches this, the desk opens no new trade for the rest of the day. |
| Weekly loss limit | 5% of equity (₹50,000 at ₹10,00,000 paper capital) | When the week's loss reaches this, the desk opens no new trade for the rest of the week. |
| Open positions at once | 5 positions | No new trade while this many positions are open. |
| Trades per day | 25 trades | Closed and open trades together. No new trade once the day has this many. |
| Total exposure | 300% of equity (₹30,00,000 at ₹10,00,000 paper capital) | The value of all open positions together may not be more than this. A new trade is made smaller to fit. |
| Size of one position | 100% of equity (₹10,00,000 at ₹10,00,000 paper capital) | The value of one position (price × quantity) may not be more than this. A bigger trade is made smaller. |
| Commodity exposure | 50% of equity (₹5,00,000 at ₹10,00,000 paper capital) | The value of all open MCX positions together may not be more than this. |
| Exposure to one instrument | 100% of equity (₹10,00,000 at ₹10,00,000 paper capital) | The value of all open positions in the same share or commodity may not be more than this. |
| Minimum reward to risk | 1.2 to 1 | The gain at the target, after charges, must be at least this many times the loss at the stop. Otherwise the trade is refused. |
| Widest bid-ask spread | Shares 15 bps (0.15%), futures 10 bps (0.10%), options 300 bps (3.00%) | A trade is refused when the gap between the best buy and sell prices is wider than this. 100 bps is 1%. Shares use the first number and MCX futures the second; the live desk trades no options. |
| Oldest price allowed | 5 seconds | A trade is refused when the instrument's last price is older than this. |
| Silent price feed | 10 seconds | If no new price arrives for this long, the kill switch stops new trades. The desk asks for prices every 10 seconds, so it waits at least three of those (30 seconds). |
| Quiet start | 3 minutes after the open | No new trade in the first minutes of a session, to avoid the noisy opening prices. |
| Last new NSE trade | 15:00 IST | No new NSE trade after this time. |
| NSE square-off | 15:15 IST | Every open NSE trade is closed at the market price at this time. All trades are intraday. |
| Last new MCX trade | 23:00 IST | No new MCX trade after this time. |
| MCX square-off | 23:15 IST | Every open MCX trade is closed at the market price at this time. |
| Losing streak pause | 5 losses in a row | After this many losing trades in a row, new trades pause (see the next row). |
| Pause after a losing streak | 30 minutes | How long new trades stay paused after the losing streak, counted from the last loss. |
Other limits
For options and groups of positions; the live desk does not check these
| Limit | Value | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| F&O leverage | 3× equity | The value of all futures and options together, as a multiple of equity. |
| Option premium per trade | 1% of equity (₹10,000 at ₹10,00,000 paper capital) | The most premium one options trade may pay. |
| Option premium in total | 4% of equity (₹40,000 at ₹10,00,000 paper capital) | The most premium all open options trades together may have paid. |
| Selling options without a hedge | Not allowed | Phase 1 only buys options or trades spreads whose largest loss is fixed in advance. |
| Exposure to one sector | 150% of equity (₹15,00,000 at ₹10,00,000 paper capital) | The value of all open positions in one sector (for example banks) may not be more than this. |
| Exposure to positions that move together | 200% of equity (₹20,00,000 at ₹10,00,000 paper capital) | The value of open positions whose prices tend to move together may not be more than this. |
| When positions count as moving together | 0.7 | Two positions whose daily returns are correlated above this number count as one group for the limit above (1 means they always move together). |
Kill switch
When the desk stops trading by itself
| Condition | Setting | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Prices stop updating | On | Stop trading when prices go stale. The live desk follows this switch: no new trades while its newest price is older than the silent-feed limit. Open trades keep their stops and targets. |
| Price feed disconnects | On | Stop trading when the connection to the prices is lost. The live desk follows this switch: it keeps trying, notes a warning in the Activity log, and opens no new trade until prices come back. |
| Daily loss limit reached | On | Stop opening trades for the rest of the day. The live desk follows this switch. |
| Weekly loss limit reached | On | Stop opening trades for the rest of the week. The live desk follows this switch. |
| Records cannot be saved | On | Stop trading when the desk cannot write its records. The live desk follows this switch: no new trades while it cannot save its records; it keeps them and saves them when the disk works again. |
| Close everything at the loss limit | On | When a loss limit is reached, also close every open paper trade at the market price. The live desk follows this switch. |
